Voice change (Hoarseness)
Abnormal voice changes, known as hoarseness, can sound breathy, raspy, or strained. These changes are usually linked to vocal fold disorders in the larynx. Vibration issues caused by swelling or lumps alter voice quality, volume, and pitch.
What Are The Causes Of Hoarseness?
Hoarseness generally stems from vocal cord irritation or injury. The vocal cords, located in the larynx (voice box), vibrate when we speak or sing to produce sound. Any disruption to this vibration results in hoarseness.
How can hoarseness be prevented?
- If you smoke, quit.
- Avoid dehydrating agents (alcohol/caffeine).
- Drink plenty of water.
- Limit vocal strain and loud usage.
